Last night (8/7) as of 11:30pm a cease fire deal was reached between Israel and Islamic Jihad.

Since the outbreak of “Breaking Dawn” last Friday (8/5) the Islamic Jihad fired 1,175 rockets on Israel. The rockets were sent to many different cities and areas including, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Be’er Sheva, Ashkalon, Ashdod and the immediate area outside of the Gaza Strip. The Iron Dome, intercepted %96 of all rockets fired.

This is no doubt is a tremendous achievement for the advanced military technology, the “Iron Dome team” and the Israel Defense Forces at large.

While protecting the citizens of Israel during “Breaking Dawn,” Israel was able to eliminate top Islamic Jihad military leaders including Taysir al-Jabari, Khaled Mansour and other senior military officers of Islamic Jihad. Until their assassination, these leaders had been planning a revenge attack against Israel for the arrest of Bassam al-Saadi, the senior leader of the Islamic Jihad in Judea and Samaria.

Once again, a successful accomplishment for Israel and the IDF in its goal to eliminate leaders of the terror organization, Islamic Jihad.

Let there be no misunderstanding, we thank God and the leaders of Israel/IDF for protecting the people of Israel in this campaign. We do not take the security and protection of the Jewish State and People lightly.

That being said, the Iron Dome and the general threat from Gaza continues to be a great embarrassment for Israel.

Since the Disengagement of Israel from Gaza in the summer of 2005, there have been five operations in Gaza, more than 16,000 rockets and mortars fired into Israel, killing more than 40 people and putting nearly one million Israeli citizens under direct threat.

Let me ask you, if Mexico fired 1,175 short and long range missiles on Texas in three days would it be acceptable in the eyes of Texans (and all Americans) to respond to the unending barrage by just shooting down the Mexican rocket fire? Would it be acceptable in the eyes of Texans to make a cease fire with Mexico, allowing the enemy time to regroup and reload its ammunition?

There is no way that Texas would find this situation acceptable or tolerable. They would be outraged that their country has adopted a policy of weakness, insecurity and constant instability, putting millions of citizens in constant fear of rocket fire and terrorism.

This situation is not and should not be acceptable to the people of Israel either. Instead of confronting the terror of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, sworn enemies of the Jewish State, head on, Israel has allowed a terror state to develop and advance. This started in 2005 as a result of Ariel Sharon’s unforgiveable disengagement from Gaza and continues until this day. Lives of Israelis in the south are constantly filled with fear and disruption.

At this point, there are no easy answers or solutions to the unending wars, rocket fire and terror coming from Gaza.

Yes the Iron Dome was 96% successful in the campaign, but overall, it is the source of great embarrassment and weakness for the People of Israel. No self respecting citizen in Texas would allow this situation to endure. We shouldn’t either.
